About Inle Lake
Inle Lake is a freshwater lake located in the Nyaungshwe Township of Taunggyi District of Shan State. It is the second largest lake and major tourist attraction in Myanmar. The lake contains over twenty species of snails and nine species of fish which cannot be found elsewhere in the world.
Most transportation on the lake is traditionally by small boats. Tourists are usually interested in the 'floating-market' where trade is conducted on the lake itself from small boats.
The Inle lake area is also well kmown for its weaving industry. Local shops are flooded with consumer items, both local and foreign.
The nearest airport is Heho Airport which is 35 km away. The best time of the year to visit is during September and October.
Inle cuisine is incorporates local natural produce. The most well-known Inle dish is Htamin jin – a rice, tomato and potato or fish salad kneaded into round balls dressed and garnished with assortments.
